Best bench for the price July 25, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised by this in general.
I've gone through maybe half a dozen benches over the decades and this is probably the second best I have bought (the best cost over 2x as much).
Assembly: Some screws did end up in random places in the box but there really weren't a lot of them. I had no trouble putting this together in less than an hour and I barely looked at the manual (and I am allergic to tools in general).
Capacity: Going by what someone mentioned above who called the manufacturer, the bench can handle 300lbs. The bench does "wobble" a bit but I have used 250lbs on it and never felt like there were going to be any problems.
The fact that it folds is very convenient for me; I move a lot and my last bench wasn't good with doorways.
It's not for a serious lifter because of the capacity, but for just about anyone else it is more than fine.

The bench is really stable and can hold both your weight and the barbell well but it has some significant flaws in terms of workmanship. In addition to what other reviewers are saying about the big gap between the seat and the back support that cause discomfort, the back support is higher than the seat in flat setting (not leveled) and tilted up. This add more discomfort while doing bench press in flat setting.
The bar that is used for inclined positions is removed in flat setting. In this setting, the vinyl at the back of the bench is directly in contact with the edges of two metal plates. I noticed a dented scratched on the vinyl just after one used. I put pieces of cloth on the edges of these metal plates as padding to prevent further damage to the vinyl and to compensate the tilting of the back support. I also insert a towel in the gap to minimize the discomfort.
There are 6 "oversized" foam rollers for leg exercises. Three of these foams have "undersized" hole that the foam won't fit in to the roller. There goes my leg exercise.
Also the packaging is very poor. The box was damaged when delivered. The worse part was when I opened the box and found some of the bolts, nuts and washers scattered in the box. As expected, some of them were missing. I called up Amazon and requested to send me a complete set of bolts, nuts and washers. Amazon told me "No", I have to send the item back to them and they will be sending a replacement. So I need to re-pack it and put a lot of tapes on the box. After a few days, I got the replacement and guess what. It's just like the first delivered unit. Fortunately, I kept some of the bolts, nuts and washers before sending the first one back.
I should have bought a quality bench instead of saving few dollars. I guess I got what I paid for.

This is a great bench if you are looking for a space saving bench. It folds up and down with ease. It does what any other bench would do and when you are done you simply fold it and it only takes up two feet of floor space. NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree guys, poor judegment as usual by Amazon to post product details that do not match what you receive in the mail. I do have some good news for you guys tho...the Body Solid website (which makes this bench) shows the true product details which state this bench does NOT have DECLINE feature.
Get this, as I was watching the (YouTube video) they posted on their site of some guy using the bench, I finally figured out a way to make this thing DECLINE...and pretty safely at that. I figured this out by looking at the video alone. Believe it or not, my bench hasn't arrived yet from Amazon (just ordered the other day) but I can't wait to use it because it sounds really sturdy and at a great price.
When you watch the video...pause it at 0:05 seconds and the idea should come to you....if not
The ANSWER to how to make your bench DECLINE is:
1- Lift your bench (by the leg extention) about 6"-12" off the ground
2- Put a strong flat square object beneath the leg extension so it sits flat and secure and voila!!!
Sometimes we have to modify things a bit guys sorry...the best I could think of, short of drilling more holes and makin a real freakin project out of this thing haha

This is a sturdy easy to assemble bench. I can easily put 300 pounds plus my 230 pounds on this bench with no shaking or buckling. I like the ability to squat by raising the bars high. However Im 6'2 so I have to duck real low and uncomfortable and be very careful.
