About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

4 out of 5 stars Great, once you figure out the computer   July 29, 2010
book/music shopper
I bought the Schwinn 220 after already owning an older model that was impractical to take with me when I moved across country. Although the box was a bit battered on arrival, everything inside was fine, and FedEx wrestled it inside for me. By the way, this sort of thing is a great reason to have Amazon Prime. I don't want to think what the shipping would have been, and I got it in two days! It was a one-person assembly, taking a bit over an hour, using the tools that came with it, with available back-up from the home toolbox. There was a little bit of squinting and "huh?" with the instructions, but nothing impossible.

As others have mentioned, it's dead quiet. My breathing is louder than any sound from the bike. There is sometimes an odd little free-wheeling moment when it changes levels, and a tiny little hum, but that's it. The "computer" is completely maddening. It was very straight-forward on my other Schwinn, but it took about 5 sessions before I could easily find Course 2 (my favorite.)

I use it for aerobic training and to rehab a bad knee, which will one day require major surgery. This bike is great for getting maximum flexibility from my knee joint without stressing it excessively. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to increase their fitness level, but is hampered from outdoor activity or gyms by time, safety, medical issues, and so forth. Just be prepared for an exasperating time figuring out the computer!

4 out of 5 stars So far so good   July 24, 2010

Shipping was fast. Box was a bit beat up but no damage to the bike. Assembly was not difficult. The instruction manual could have used a litte bit more detail. Everything lined up as it should. I like that the hardware was shrink wrapped and organized. The complaint I have is with the power cord. It makes no sense for it to be up front. Now I have to use an extension cord to plug it in. The other issue I have is with the seat. It isn't that comfortable on the tail bone! I have yet to master the programing--the instruction manual is worthless in this area. The bike does have a good quality feel to it and runs quiet which is a plus when watching t.v. or listening to music. The Schwinn name was what convinced me to take a chance because most fitness equipment in this price range means you usually get junk. Let's hope I don't eat my words!

4 out of 5 stars Easy setup and easy to use   July 23, 2010

I bought this locally after reading so many reviews of delivery damage. It was easy to put together and I was using it as soon as I finished the assembly. It is very quiet so if you want to listen to music or TV it's no problem. While the instructions aren't great, I had no trouble with assembly or with using the computer and preloaded programs.

I've only used it once so I can't speak to the long term but it gave me great back support which is what I needed. It was very comfortable. I consider this a smart buy.

The word Schwinn has always meant quality to me and the 220 is no exception. Easy setup, love the fact I can increase or decrease pedal resistance. Being a big guy I find it quite comfortable.
