Manufacturer's Warranty Frame and brake - lifetime, parts - 5 years, labor - 1 year About Elliptical Trainers Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips. Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home. Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Smooth and easy February 22, 2010 J. volpe 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Im recuperating from an ankle fx and this elliptical has helped me tremendously. It is very smooth and easy on the joints. Very low impact. The variety of programs and resistance levels it offers is also a great plus. I have absolutely no regrets so far(purchased it in Jan). One of the best warrantees in the business also.Under $900 delivered---great buy!!!
Like the gym ellipticals! February 14, 2010 Kara P (TN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Before purchasing this product I researched for months. I am a bit of an "elliptical snob" as I used the ones in gyms for years and it seemed that any others were nowhere close to the quality or the workout. I knew I could not buy one without trying it myself, so after much research I learned that this machine is for all intents and purposes the same machine (minus a few minor bells and whistles) as the Sole machines which are sold at Dick's. After trying the machine along with all the others, I was amazed at how smooth the glide was and the overall quality of the product. There was no need to research or try any others. This was definitely the best elliptical outside of the gym I'd ever tried.
The best website that I found for researching ellipticals was [...]. Very informative and seemingly unbiased. If you look also on Consumer Reports it rated the Sole as its #1 "Best Buy" which again, the Sole is virtually the same as the Spirit, made by the same manufacturer, etc., just is less expensive.
After having the elliptical a few months I am absolutely confident that we made an excellent choice. My husband and I both use it almost daily and have been more than pleased. It is so quiet I can't even tell if my husband is using it. It is amazing how I (about 5'6") and my husband (6'2") can both use the machine with no problems. I used to even have a problem with my feet falling asleep on other machines but not with this machine.
Purchasing through Amazon was also a great choice. By far the cheapest we found and it was not a problem with delivery as we just picked it up from UPS directly. Also great was that the elliptical came with the flywheel and pedals pre-assembled so it made assembly a breeze (my father helped put it together and after having just assembled his new elliptical, an Epic, a few months prior wished he'd have waited and bought this one... he had to assemble his flywheel even... plus he said the quality was much better and we paid about the same price).
Overall, a VERY smart choice and one of the best purchases I've made!
Spirit Customer Support is awful! Just hope it never breaks! February 12, 2010 G. Hasul (Venice, FL USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We would have given 5 stars, but Spirit Customer service just WON'T talk to you.
I read about the problems people had assembling the machine, so I read the instruction and studied the diagrams before I even took the unit out of the box. All in all it was not that bad. In less than 2 hours it was assembled and I have not had any problems.
On 02/09 I called the 800 number to ask about a heart rate monitor. They took my name and said a "technician" would get back to me within 24 hours. The next day I still didn't get a call so I called them back, this time they said it normally takes 24 to 48 hours because it is the busiest time of the year. When I told her it was 24 hours yesterday she said she would put me through, but she did not know if anyone would talk to me. I got voicemail and left my name, phone number and asked my question. 02/12 and still no call back. Anyway, I ended up calling Polar (they make the transmitter) and asked what model I should buy for the Spirit EL-5. She asked if I had called Spirit. I told her its been 4 days and no call back. She put me on hold and a few minutes later she said that Spirit uses the TM-31 NON-Coded transmitter. I bought it and it worked the first time.
I can only hope that I never have to call Spirit with a warranty issue! Spirit and Sole are owned by the same company (Dyaco) and I've found people talking about simular issues with Sole machines. Look up the Sole reviews on Amazon and you'll see what I mean.
Quality equipment January 7, 2010 D. E. (W. MT) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First time I've purchased something like this from Amazon. Overall
a good experience. It was delivered to a local freight depot
who called me to pick it up there. I had expected
it to be delivered to the house but it worked out ok as it fit in
a pickup truck. Weighs 200+ lbs. Assistance recommended to
move if alone.
It was well packed and the assembly directions were easy to
follow although I did used my own tools to do the setup.
Less than a hour total to complete assembly with
two people.
Machine is heavy and not easy to move around on carpet, it is setup
in a home gym setting. The unit works very well
and we are happy with it's performance to date.
Good deal, nice machine, would do again.
smooth operation December 15, 2009 Robert A. Van Laere 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was orignally leary of the assembly, especially after thumbing through the manual. However, the separate compartments of screws, nuts, and bolts for each operation started to ease the tension. Then the illustrations of the assembly made life that much easier.
I am certainly please with both the ease of assembly, as well as the smooth operation of this elliptical. I would definetly recommend this to any and all who are interested in a moderately price unit.
