Love it! July 25, 2010 J. Semler (Baltimore, MD) I bought this about a month and a half ago. It took about 2 hours to put it all together. I use it about 6 times per week/15-30 minutes at a time. The size it perfect. I have a very cramped bedroom and this fit right into the corner. My only complaint is some squeakiness. I tightened the bolts/screws and it took away a lot. I do have it on a carpeted floor without a mat underneath it. I'm not totally sure that the calorie counter is correct either, however, I am not concerned with that portion. The workout is great and I can tell it's working (about 6 weeks in and I've lost 3 inches from hips, 3 from waist, and 8.5 lbs). Oh I also love that I got this for $199 and free shipping! My last piece of fitness equipment, I spent $50 just on shipping.
Simple workout machine July 25, 2010 Lena I got this elliptical machine 10 days ago and chose it because of its weight and dimensions. I get a sufficient workout out of it and am already seeing some improvement: legs are getting more toned. It is quiet and can easily be moved (has some type of rollers on the bottom).
A couple of things.
- When putting it together, I realized that the axle bar in the middle is a little short. I had to take one of the washers out so there was enough room left at the end to secure the bar. It took the total of 3 hours for me to put it together, and I am not particularly mechanically inclined. The instruction manual is easy to read. The pictures are somewhat overwhelming - they show a detailed view of where every little detail goes, but the process is not hard.
- I do not notice any difference in the resistance level when I rotate the switch. Either I am in such a great shape that it makes no difference to me, or it does not work. It is most likely the latter. I hooked the tension correctly - there is not much room for error there. But I will have to open it up again to check if it has slipped.
Overall, it is a nice elliptical. It is perfect for me. However, if your fitness level is more advanced, then you might want to look for a training device that has a variety of functions.
About 6 months later, it is no more. June 21, 2010 Wonsuk Chang 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wrote a positive review when I first purchased this product about 6 months ago. Now, the piece of equipment is no longer with me.
It turns out that this product is just too poorly built! The materials are just below-average qualities.
First it started making squeaky noise from the rotor. It became so unbearable, that my wife stopped using this machine all together.
My wife only used this machine for about a month (if that) and she used this machine about three times a week, for about an hour each day.
I called the manufacturer about the noise and they sent me new sets of bearings because they suggested that the noise was coming from bearings, which were probably broken.
By then, though, it was a long time after the warranty expired, so I had to replace the bearings myself (the manufacturer sent me new bearings).
It wasn't too difficult to replace the bearings, except that it was a really messy job.
By the way, about the old bearings, there are two bearings in the rotor and when I opened the frame to get to the rotor, they were completely broken!
My wife and I weren't even putting this machine through vigorous cycles. So it was the first sign of using cheap materials.
After the new bearings were in, the noise seemed to go away for a couple of days, but after just a few days later, the noise came back.
Then a few days later, the cross-bar section in the middle of the machine came apart on its own!
The plastic parts at both ends cracked and came off the machine all together and thus the metal bar inside was sliding back and forth.
So here was another sign of using cheap materials.
I could have called the manufacturer again and have them send me another replacement parts, but to what end?
The noise didn't go away and the machine seems to deteriorate itself faster than anything built in modern days!
I paid $200 for this product and I certainly expected this machine to last more than just 6 months.
I still need an elliptical because I do not like running. So I went and bought an elliptical (not from the same manufacturer), again.
This time I paid more and I own, no, my wife owns a treadmill that's from the same manufacturer (pro form?).
The treadmill has been through more harsh cycles and lasted a lot longer than just 6 months. So I'm hoping this new elliptical will do the same for me.
So here is my second review on this product.
If the machine starts to make noise from the rotor section, be prepared to replace the bearings and get your hands all dirty and greasy.
And you'll still have noise. Isn't that sad? Then the machine breaks down and tries to go back to nature.
I will not suggest this machine to any of my friends... and you!
Body Rider 2500 June 8, 2010 H. Baker (Tennessee) I had read other reviews, so I pretty well knew what to expect. Package arrived in decent shape. One of the caps for the rear stabilizer bar was cracked, but I used duct tape to "repair" it and secure it to the bar. Everything else was in good shape. Nuts/bolts/washers/etc. came well-labeled. Took a couple of hours to assemble by myself, as I was going slowly, making sure I didn't make mistakes. There was one point in the assembly I could have used another person. The handle bar axle has a D shape at the ends, and there are D shaped washers to put in place before securing the end caps. Once I got one end completed, the axle needed to be pushed hard from that end to get the other end exposed enough to get the D washer and cap installed properly - it was awkward without having someone else pushing (plus there are globs of grease on the axle, which is good, but it made attaching that washer/cap difficult).
As far as actual operation, I already knew from reviews that this wasn't going to be a quiet machine, but I'll admit it creaks and squeaks quite a bit more than I expected. I've tightened and re-tightened all the nuts and bolts, but to no avail. The noise doesn't bother me (I have both a radio and TV on when I work out, and it's in my basement), but it's loud enough to be heard by my wife upstairs when I use it. It gives an excellent workout - I had a NordicTrack ski machine for over 20 years before it finally gave up the ghost, and the workout from this machine is every bit as good as the NordicTrack. So for the money ($200 on sale), I consider this a good investment as long as the creaking and squeaking is not indicative of a short operating life. If the machine wears out in a couple of years, I'll wish I had spent more for a quiet machine that would last. If it lasts 10 years, it will have been a good decision.
Ok for the price May 31, 2010 Michael Davis (Cedar Park, TX) For the price this elliptical does the job. It was easy to assemble and has a fairly smooth motion. The electronic display is decent and easy to read. My only real complaint is that the unit loudly creaks while in use. Tightening the bolts has helped some but the machine is not as quiet as it could be.
