About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer's advice. Liz didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world's first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn't stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio's products. Disappointed June 14, 2010 Inscoism (Irvine, CA) I had high hopes for this heartrate monitor and I was let down. The monitor only returns a heartrate about 50% of the time when I am in the middle of an intense cardio workout - this is when I need it the most! When I am not working out, the monitor returns a heartrate 100% of the time. This makes the monitor virtually useless to me. It seems to work better when my wife uses it but even she has experienced the same issue. I am back on the market for a monitor w/a chest strap. They may be bulky and somewhat uncomfortable but at least they work.
Great! No chest strap needed May 3, 2010 Jule36 (Jacksonville, FL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product and gives me motivation to work harder throughout a workout. The downside is its big, and i have a tiny wrist, but i could order ladies sized straps to solve that. also, i guess i am a nervous person, because i cannot ever get the resting heart rate to what my doctor tells me it is, so I leave it on the default 70.
Mio Sport- best item in price range April 14, 2010 C. Rochon I didn't want to spend a ton of money, so this item was perfectly priced. I also did not want to wear one of those straps that go around your chest area. So again this was perfect. I have been using now for over a month- works great. I use it during spin class, step aerobics, etc. Don't really have any complaints about it.
Inconsistent performance... March 25, 2010 Lisa M. Correia (Atkinson NH) Prompt delivery of my Mio Sport Select Heart Rate Watch. Unfortunately, the watch arrived immediately needing a battery replacement. I had no problems getting a replacement battery. The watch was packaged with a 1-page instruction sheet and two other inserts (one with their customer service info; one with replacement wristband info) so the customer service number was easy to find. The customer service rep I got on the phone was very courteous. Mio outsources its repairs so I sent the watch with a letter directly to the repair center. The watch returned with a new battery w/in 2 weeks. I've been wearing this watch to the gym and use it to take my heart rate during my cardio kickboxing classes. Sometimes the reading displays quickly, but other times it takes me awhile. It is supposed to tell me how many calories has been burned; however, I haven't been able to figure that feature out quickly enough and the 1-page sheet of directions doesn't quite cover that. I'll have to visit the MIO website and watch their product demonstration video. I hope the watch lasts; however, should I ever need it replaced, I'll probably try another brand - perhaps Polar - the pioneers of heart monitoring devices. I'll also opt for a more feminine style. This one is too big for my wrist, but I couldn't turn down the low price Amazon was offering (lower than $30).
Great Heart Rate Watch March 10, 2010 scott colville (Laurel, MD) I checked around for heart rate monitor watches for several weeks and this watch was the best value for the money. It had the features I wanted and seemed to be priced at an affordable cost compared to other watches I looked at and compared. I have been very pleased with the watch once it arrived and I put it on. It is extremely easy to use and I like the fact that it is also water proof/resistent. It is very comfortable to wear all day and it has worked perfectly with no problems.
